JOB TITLE: Programme Director

LOCATION: Langbinsi, North East Region, Ghana (with travel as required)

REPORTING TO:  Board of Directors

OVERVIEW:
The Programme Director will lead the implementation and management of PAMBE Ghana’s strategic objectives, ensuring that it aligns with its mission to provide quality basic education to children in underserved rural communities in northern Ghana, and the vision to influence and support the adoption of Montessori and other learner-centred approaches in public education system.

The ideal candidate will have passion for quality basic education, experience in Montessori and other learner-centered approaches, and have excellent leadership, communication and networking skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Strategic Leadership & Programme Development
  • Lead the planning, execution, and evaluation of education programme initiatives, ensuring they align with PAMBE Ghana’s vision and strategic objectives.
  • Advocate for the adoption of Montessori and learner-centred methodologies in public education systems through policy engagement, and capacity-building initiatives.
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of programme activities to enhance access to quality basic education in target communities.
  • Monitor trends in education and propose innovative approaches to enhance learning outcomes.
  1. Programme Implementation & Management
  • Supervise the effective running of PAMBE Ghana Montessori-based elementary school and other educational initiatives.
  • Oversee curriculum development, teacher training, and student assessment processes to ensure quality standards.
  • Ensure programme activities are inclusive, gender-sensitive, and culturally relevant
  1. Partnerships & Advocacy
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government agencies, educational institutions, community leaders, donors, and other stakeholders.
  • Advocate for education policies and reforms that support Montessori and learner-centred approaches in public education.
  • Represent PAMBE Ghana in education forums, conferences, and policy discussions at local, national, and international levels.
  1. Resource Mobilization & Financial Management
  • Identify funding opportunities and lead proposal development to secure financial and technical support for education initiatives.
  • Work with the finance team of the Board to develop and manage programme budgets, ensuring financial accountability and sustainability.
  • Oversee the effective utilization of resources and ensure compliance with donor and regulatory requirements.
  1. Team Leadership & Capacity Building
  • Oversee recruitment, training, and management of programme staff and volunteers
  • Foster a culture of learning and innovation among staff.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to programme staff and volunteers.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Degree in Education, Development Studies, Public Policy, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in education or programme management, in rural or underserved communities.
  • At least 5 years’ experience with Montessori or other learner-centred education methods.
  • Proven track record in strategic leadership, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience in fundraising and financial management.
  • Excellent communication and networking skills.
  • Ability to work with diverse stakeholders

Preferred Attributes

  • Passion for education and child development in underserved communities.
  • Familiarity with Ghana’s education policies and systems.
  • Willingness to travel and work in rural areas.
  • Ability to speak local languages of Northern Ghana region is an advantage.
